CHAGA

(Inonotus obliquus)

Chaga is a fungus that grows in northern woods. It appears as blackish growth blooming in the wounds of living birch trees. The rough and gnarled coal-like exterior belies a copper-colored core, earning chaga one of many nicknames: black gold. We sustainably hand harvest this wild-crafted diamond of the forest and air dry it on farm before preparing it for use in one of several ways:

1) chaga chunks can be brewed whole in a teapot and reused several times;

2) loose ground chaga has the consistency of coffee and can be brewed in a coffee maker;

3) chaga tea bags are standard tea bags containing ground chaga for single-serve cups of chaga.

Chaga tea has a mild, earthy taste and is widely credited with a range of health benefits. Some people like it as is. We recommend a natural sweetener like honey or maple sugar. Chaga is also delicious with ginger.
